The strains of a multi-cultured family and the pressures of an artist’s life
began to take their toll and the couple separated soon after the move to
San Francisco. Troy returned to Los Angeles with Athena. Troy and
Bel-Jon loved each other and hoped to reconcile, but each had issues to
resolve before that could happen. During their separation they wrote
frequently and met when possible to try to resolve their differences.
While Troy was in Los Angeles she began designing hats and reconnected
with her Hollywood friends. Budding actress Marilyn Maxwell invited her
friend Troy to join her on the press junket to promote for her new movie
and her dear friends Melissa and Jerry Erwin were always there to help
with Athena. Eventually Troy's parents, Margaret and Frederick
Brokoetter came to Los Angeles to help their daughter.
